Vietnam's retail sales, service revenues up 10.9 pct in H1

Vietnam"s total goods retail sales and consumer service revenues increased by 10.9 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year to more than 3 quadrillion Vietnamese dong (126.6 billion U.S. dollars), local media reported on Monday.

Specifically, Vietnam"s goods retail sales stood at more than 2.3 quadrillion Vietnamese dong (97 billion dollars), up 9.3 percent, with the sales of food and foodstuff growing by 13.5 percent and those of clothing increasing by 9.5 percent, local newspaper Vietnam News reported, citing the General Statistics Office.

In June alone, revenue of retail sales of consumer goods and service totaled 505.7 trillion Vietnamese dong (21.3 billion dollars), an increase of 6.5 percent year-on-year, the newspaper said.

The country has defined the domestic market as one of the important factors that promote gross domestic product growth of the whole country, the newspaper reported.

It will focus on promoting trade in the domestic market while pushing up the distribution of goods through digital and e-commerce platforms to expand domestic consumption, according to the report.

Last year, Vietnam"s total goods retail sales and consumer service revenues increased by 19.8 percent year-on-year to approximately 5,679.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (239.7 billion dollars), according to the office.

Specifically, its goods retail sales stood at nearly 4,475.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (188.9 billion dollars), up 14.4 percent, with the sales of cultural and educational products increasing 22.9 percent, and those of clothing growing 19.1 percent.
